Donnie (Donald) Abrahamson is a Virtual Production and Real-Time Artist from Houston, Texas, specializing in lighting and environment art. He primarily works in Unreal Engine, Houdini, Nuke, and Gaea.

A recent graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) with a BFA in Visual Effects, Donnie is passionate about studying the world around him and applying real-world principles to his work. After all, visual effects is, in many ways, the study of reality—and how we can recreate it with accuracy and artistry.

Donnie’s creative journey began in live sports broadcasting and technical theatre, where he developed a strong foundation in lighting and scenic design. These physical, hands-on experiences continue to inform his approach to digital environments and virtual production.

Outside of VFX, Donnie enjoys photography—particularly analog film—and proudly carries on his family name as the third-generation Donald (though using the nickname Donnie). Among close friends and family, he’s known as “D3,” a nickname that inspired the name and branding of D3VFX.

Below are some of the projects Donnie has contributed to—each a step in his ongoing exploration of storytelling through technology and craft.
